Protection of personal data

The increasing influence and use of new technologies have led to a strengthened protection of citizens in this field through Act num. 15/1999 on the Protection of Personal Data (“Ley Orgánica 15/1999, de Protección de Datos de Carácter Personal”). This basic statute establishes specific obligations concerning the protection of data, such as the obligation to identify data files and to notify them to the Data Protection Agency, the obligation to adopt security measures adapted to the specific nature of data, as well as the obligation to grant the rights of access, rectification, cancellation and objection to the owners of data.
