Public regulation of economic activities
Recent phenomena such as the end of monopolies, the privatization of public services and consequent subjection to competition rules have led, paradoxically, to increasing public regulation of economic activities and to strengthened control procedures, frequently formalised through the so-called independent administrations (agencies, supervisory committees etc.). The activities these bodies carry out raise new problems as regards their relationship with private agents. These questions have to be examined from the perspective of Administrative Law, as for independent agencies exercise public powers deriving from the European Union, or from national, regional or local governments.
